On The Scene: Earth DAy in Central Park
Since I mentioned it in a previous post, I went to Central Park today to check out the Earth Day Events. I took a lot of pictures, and you can see the gallery after the jump.
But first, some highlights.
A good amount of people were in attendance. In fact, Starbucks had set up a tent, giving out free coffee, and the line for the free coffee was always quite long. Another exhibit, sponsored by burt’s bees, also had a long wait. Who knew conservation could be so appealing?
I was on the lookout for littering. Cuz irony is my thing.
But overall, it was quite a successful event. Nothing seemed too preachy, there was a nice laid back feel, the weather was good, and there was actually a lot of good fun activities and plenty of giveaways. I got lots of free seeds! In fact, the seeds were “embedded” into the paper of the companies that sponsored the event! So I can plant a postcard. And in two weeks time, smell the lilies. Or whatever grows. I also got a FREE 16 dollar book about pine trees! HUZZAH! I think I might document the growth of one of the seed packs, so be sure to check back for that. It will be exciting, since the seeds are for a giant redwood tree. For realzies.
And the highlight of the event for me (besides free Starbucks, of course) was getting to paint a piece of a giant conservation inspired mural. Completely made out of eco-safe materials. Of course, I decided to make a statement about just how cool saving the earth can be:
