Stars and Stripes Forever

posted by Kane

I would like to point out that it is STILL July 4th in New York (though only about 20 minutes left), and STILL lots left to July 4th in L.A. (Los Angeles). So there should be no problem with me posting about July 4th right now. I had to miss the fireworks here in New York, because I was at work til 10, and the fireworks happened at 930. I HEARD the fireworks, but didnt see them. So I had to wait to celebrate. And what better way to celebrate a late night Fourth of July, than with the MUPPETS! Enjoy.

The Great Cookie Debate of Aught-Eight

posted by Kane

The Great Cookie Debate of ‘08 continues. And it’s defining moment may have happened here, in this clip from last week’s Colbert Report:

Personally, I prefer cupcakes. But a cookie is good enough for me!

Paul Bunyan: Biggest B’logger’

posted by Kane

In a blog dedicated to commenting on other blogs, mention must be made of the greatest blogger that ever lived.

‘Tis an old-fashioned tale, for old-fashioned times, ’bout an old-fashioned fella, but that’s the way he woulda’ wanted it:

Naturally, just getting Paul Bunyan online was already no mean feat. There was no broadband available in the remote areas of the woods where they’d been working, so the first thing he had to do was string optical cable from the nearest T1 line, which was clear down in St. Paul. For anybody but Paul Bunyan, that would have been near impossible, but ol’ Paul just ordered a couple flatbeds of the finest glass windows Minnesota had to offer, chewed’em all up in a single mouthful, and drew’em out between his teeth to spin three hundred miles of perfect fiber optics. Then he just coiled it all up in a loop, and walked all the way into town, stringing that cable all the way. So getting online wasn’t a real problem.

No, the real problem was using a computer built to the scale of a normal man! To Paul, the biggest font available was like microfiche, and he’d never been fond of reading much but lumber futures, anyway. And the largest screen they could find was no better than an old Nokia mobile phone for Paul.

For the whole story, check it out here.

Another excerpt, that could be helpful to any blogger looking for fame and glory in the blogging world:

People read blogs because blogs tell them what they are in the process of thinking. Blogging is a two-way street; the activity of blogging, like other community communication (forums and the like), is to evolve concepts and ideas — even though they may well be trivial. So Paul had been going about the business all wrong! Instead of telling people what he thought they wanted to hear, he had to understand what they wanted to hear first, and then say that.

…To achieve the goal he’d set himself, he effectively had to get out ahead of the whole human race, think what they were going to be thinking in a day or an hour or even in five minutes, and nudge himself in the right direction…

So, thats what I have to do in order to get webfamous! Evolve concepts. Say what people are thinking BEFORE they are thinking it! Hmm… Get to work on that.

Disney Toy Videos!

posted by Kane

Last time I posted, was my own video I made with my plush thing Rufus. I know more people out there make there own plush/plastic thing videos, heck, thats the point of Robot Chicken…

But it looks like Disney is in on the action! (In my mind, they saw my Rufus video’s and got the idea from me…) Officially:

It appears that Disney and Nasa have joined forces for some kind of children’s education series. And they are making toy videos to promote!

From the Orlando Attractions Magazine blog:

As seven, well-trained astronauts begin an important mission to the International Space Station on Saturday, May 31, one toy astronaut, Buzz Lightyear, will begin a journey to help educate children across the country.

The liftoff of space shuttle Discovery kicks off a new education initiative between NASA and Disney Parks. A 12-inch-tall Buzz Lightyear action figure will be carried aboard the shuttle as part of the partnership to encourage students to pursue studies in science, technology and mathematics, one of NASA’s main educational goals.Disney’s Youth Educational Series and NASA have developed an online program known as the Space Ranger Education Series. It includes fun educational games for students, as well as materials for educators to download and integrate into their classroom curriculum.

Beginning Saturday, May 31, the online games featuring Buzz Lightyear will be available by visiting NASA’s homepage and clicking on the box for the NASA Kids’ Club at: http://www.nasa.gov

Since 1985, NASA’s Toys in Space project has used toys flown aboard the shuttle and the International Space Station to help children learn science and mathematics. Scientific and mathematical principles make these toys work. For example, wind-up toys convert stored potential energy in their springs into kinetic energy as the springs unwind. Gravity often plays an important role in the actions of toys, but how would the same toys function in an environment where the effects of gravity are not felt? Only NASA can provide the settings, so students can discover the answer to questions like these.

“We are thrilled that Buzz’s lifelong dream of space travel finally will come true thanks to NASA,” said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “This launch fulfills his dream, and we hope it will inspire countless children to stay interested in science and believe in their own dreams.

“The beginning of Buzz’s space mission coincides with the opening of “Toy Story Mania!,” a new 4-D interactive attraction, on May 31 at Walt Disney World, Fla., and on June 17 at Disneyland Resort, Calif.

I eagerly await the next official NASA/Disney toy video!

And work is underway for the next rufus video. SOON!

Parents think Noone shouldn’t get the money

posted by Kane

Okay. So here’s the deal. Here is an article about a woman fighting a family to receive her husbands pension… very sad story, true. And I am a horrible person for finding comedy in the story. But it MUST be noted.

Let’s take a look at the quotes. Then I will share my thoughts.

Prior’s parents do not think his then-fiancee Doreen Noone should be entitled to half the $75,000 annual pension…

…The Priors concede that the young couple was engaged, with a wedding date set for July 12, 2002, an $8,000 ring on Noone’s finger and contracts in place for a photographer, a church and a reception.

But the parents have accused Noone of lying to the Fire Department that the pair lived together, so that she might have a better shot at winning the $37,600 annual payout from the pension board. …

…Noone is now engaged to Prior’s best friend, a police officer.

Does anyone else here see what I am getting at…?

The fiance’s name is NOONE… as in NO ONE! I am reminded of a little passage in Homer’s "The Oddyssey" (or was it the Iliad), where Odyssesus gets out of trouble with the cyclops by telling him that his name is "Nobody", or something like that.

So basically, the parents think that Noone shouldn’t get the money. and that’s NOT a double negative. HA!

And Noone is sickened by the fight. No one is. I’d be sickened by the fight.

The parents have accused Noone of lying to the Fire Department. How do you explain that on the phone. "Who lied?" "No one." " Then what’s the problem?" "SHE LIED!" "WHO??!!" "NO ONE!" It’s like Abbot and Costello.

Noone was almost married to Kevin Prior. Seems like a closed case to me. The parents get the money, cuz Kevin was never engaged. He never was even almost married.

Though if the parent’s DO concede, I suppose that means the money would go to … wait for it… NO ONE! HA!

It also must be noted, that KYLE notes that the man’s name was PRIOR. As in before, so we are talking about the Prior relationship, since NoOne is now engaged to someone else, the prior boyfriend’s best friend. Does your brain hurt?
